Your journey begins with a morning pickup from the Kalutara area. We head straight to the Bentota River for an immersive, scenic boat safari through lush mangrove tunnels. Next, visit a local turtle hatchery dedicated to marine conservation before driving down the coast to explore the atmospheric, historic streets of the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Dutch Fort.
After a quick photo stop to marvel at Sri Lanka's traditional stilt fishermen, we leave the coast behind and enjoy a scenic drive inland toward the lowlands of Yala, keeping our eyes peeled for wild elephants along the forest borders.
Overnight Stay: Yala
An early 4:45 AM wake-up call brings us to the gates of Yala National Park just as the wilderness comes alive. Board your private 4x4 open-top safari jeep to track majestic Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, wild elephants, and vibrant birdlife.
After returning to the hotel for a fresh shower and breakfast, we ascend into the cool, misty mountains of Ella. In the evening, enjoy a rewarding 80-minute round-trip trek up Mini Adam’s Peak for breathtaking valley views, followed by a walk down to witness the incredible colonial architecture of the Nine Arch Bridge.
Overnight Stay: Ella
Today, we make our way from Ella to the hill capital of Kandy. Optional: Choose to experience the world-famous highland blue train from Ella to Nanu Oya (a spectacular 3-hour journey).
If traveling by road, we will pass straight through Nuwara Eliya ("Little England"), driving past rolling, emerald tea plantations and alpine villages. By 5:00 PM, we arrive in Kandy to witness a high-energy, 1-hour Kandy Cultural Dance Show filled with traditional drummers and fire-walkers. We close out the evening with a beautiful visit to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic during the vibrant evening ceremony.
Overnight Stay: Kandy
After breakfast, enjoy a peaceful morning stroll through the sprawling lawns and exotic flora of the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, followed by a stop at a local Kandy gem museum. Heading back, we will tour an authentic tea factory and a vibrant herbal and spice garden.
To conclude your tour, we visit an interactive elephant river sanctuary. Unlike standard orphanages where viewing is done from a distance, here you can get fully up-close and personal to hand-feed, touch, and even help bathe these gentle giants in the river. Alternative: If you prefer to visit the official Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage instead, your driver will happily adjust the route! Afterward, relax as your private vehicle safely transfers you back to your hotel destination.
